La Jolla Shores

Located at 8200 Camino del Oro, the mile long La Jolla Shores offers the most gentle waves of any beach in the area. Kellogg Park which is located behind the main lifeguard station offers an area for picnics, and a wide cement boardwalk parallels a portion of the beach between the park & sand.

Home to the only beachfront boat launch within the City of San Diego, La Jolla Shores' unimproved boat launch allows small vessels to be launched directly into the surf at the foot of Avenida de la Playa, about 300 yards south of the lifeguard station.

Near the foot of Vallecitos, along the south end of the beach, scuba diving classes are popular. La Jolla Shores is popular with scuba divers due to the smaller waves and the location of the San Diego La Jolla Underwater Ecological Reserve & Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
