Alligator River Trail

22 Miles
Easy

The Alligator River Trail begins near its headwaters, just below the confluence of the Northwest and Southwest Forks of the river. Beginning at an old loading dock, the outing starts on the Northwest Fork of the Alligator River and travels southeasterly approximately four miles to the intersection with the Alligator River.

The beginning section meanders through a coastal forest of pines and swamp hardwoods and transforms to a coastal marsh estuary as you reach the mouth of the Northwest Fork. After reaching the Alligator River, the canoeist turns south and follows the river through miles of brackish marshes, remnants of once majestic cypresses, and great forests of pines and mixed hardwoods.
