Accomack County Virginia Paddle Trails

Queen Sound to Greenbackville Harbor

From the Queen Sound Landing Boat Ramp go east along the Chincoteague Causeway to the Queen Sound bridge. After passing under the bridge continue along the main channel until a clear view of the mainland is on your left (West). Paddle toward the mainland through the small salt marsh islands. The area has no channel markers and several routes are possible, but keep in mind that this area is affected by the tide. When you reach the shoreline, turn right and follow the shoreline northward. After passing Horntown Landing look on your left for Swans Gut and then Powell Creek (Although access to these creeks are limited by the tide they provide opportunities for coastal exploration.)

Continue north to the village of Greenbackville. After paddling around the long, low breakwater keep to your right as you enter the harbor, use the first boat ramp as you enter the harbor.

This trail is rated as Advanced.

To reach the Queen Sound Launch Site from US13 turn right onto SR 175 (Chincoteague Road) and travel 7.9 miles to the launch site on the right.
